JLT Painting, owned and operated by John Thompson, has been in business in its present form since 2003. Before that, John was employed at Canterbury Shaker Village for nine years, as a restoration painter, plasterer, and carpenter. John also was involved in recording, researching, and documenting changes to the historic structures, including assisting in producing a digital database for this information. Before John’s experience at Shaker Village, he was a self-employed painting contractor, working on new and older homes and buildings. John has a total of thirty years experience in the building trades.
Presently, JLT Painting specializes in residences, solving problems that all houses display due to weather, time, and wear: peeling paint, falling plaster, rotted wood, stains, and general disrepair. We make a specialty of restoring old window sash, keeping as much of the original material as possible, while reglazing, repairing wooden parts, weatherstripping, and repainting to a new finish. With experience in historic buildings, we are sensitive to the original appearance and structure of fine New England homes, while using modern materials to provide beauty and durability.
